Joe Geers died  in a motorcycle accident in August, 1978.  He was married and had one son.  He was a probationary officer for Piatt County. Joe remarked to his mother, no long before his death, that "there are so many things I want to do with these kids but so little time to do it."

Joe looked forward each year to the annual "Fuzz vs Juvenile Delinquents" ballgame.  He also continued his love for Boy Scouts and stayed active in scouting until his death.  He was preceded in death by his father and his brother Tim.
